Covid-19, the Decree-Law to counter contagion during the holidays published in the Official Gazette

The Government issued a decree-law introducing further urgent provisions to deal with the health risks associated with the spread of the COVID-19 virus during the holiday period, from  December 24 to  January 6.

Without prejudice to the provisions already introduced by the decree-law  December 2, 2020, n. 158, concerning travelling within or across the national territory during the period between  December 21, 2020 and  January 6, 2021, the text provides that:

  • on public holidays and pre-holidays, between December 24, 2020 and January 6 2021, the measures set out in the Ministerial Decree of December 3, 2020 for the ‘red areas’, i.e. the areas characterised by a scenario of maximum severity and a high level of risk, shall be applied throughout the national territory.
  • on December 28, 29 and 30, 2020 and January 4, 2021, the measures set out in the Ministerial Decree of December 3, 2020  for the so-called “orange areas”, i.e. areas characterised by a high severity scenario and a high level of risk, will apply throughout the country. On the same days, however, travel will be permitted from municipalities with a population of up to 5,000 inhabitants to locations no more than 30 kilometres away, excluding in any case travel to provincial capitals;
  • in addition to the journeys that are already allowed, in the period between December 24, 2020 and  January 6, 2021, between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., a maximum of two people may travel once a day to a single private home in their region. The person or two persons travelling may be accompanied by their children under 14 years of age (or other children under 14 years of age over whom the same persons exercise parental authority) and by disabled or co-inhabitant reliant persons.
